Urban Estate - Panchkula
Panchkula is one of the most planned cities in the Norther part of the country. The city becomes all the more important because of the presence of Chandimandir Cantonment of army in the city. he city of Panchkula consists of five sub districts which are Panchkula,Barwala Pinjore, Kalka and Raipur Rani. The lone hill station of the state of Haryana, Morni Hills is also located in this city. The city has also acquired immense importance beacuse of its proximity to the Union Territory of Chandigarh. In fact, the city is a part of what is known as 'Chandigarh Tricity' which consists of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.The population of the city,going by the estimates, is somewhere around 2, 00,000.
The new urban estate of Panchkula is located west of Chandigarh. The Chandigarh railway station lies near the Chandigarh Panchkula boundary, and also has an exit toward Panchkula, thus, conveniently working as a common railway station. The areas of Shivalik Enclave,and Manimajra are towards the Northwest location of Panchkula's Urban estate. The Cantonment of Chandi mandir is north of Panchkula's urban estate, towards the south of Urban estate is Zirakpur district of Punjab. Most of the developed sectors are located in the West of the Ghaggar river.
The Simla highway cuts straight through the estate running parallel to the Ghaggar and it's newly developed sectors are on the western banks of the Ghaggar river. It is developed on the outskirts of Chandigarh, rested amongst the picturesque background of the Shivalik hills and the Ghaggar River. The township has been efficiently divided into separate sectprs and also separate areas from industrial setups, residential localities and townships, recreational facilities and educational institutions.
The Eastern sectors of the estate are located on the edge of the Ramgarh, through which a road runs towards south of Dera Bassi in Punjab while passing through Mubarakpur.
East of Ramgarh on the road to Naraingarh ( in Ambala district) is Barwala where an industrial estate has been set up housing all the industrial units of the district and Raipur Rani where a proposed Nano city is coming up.
The road to Nahan- Paonta- Dehradun passes through these towns. Just short of Raipur Rani is a turn that goes to Dosarka between Ambala and Yamunanagar.
There is a golf course, and a very popular sports complex namely Tau Devi Lal Sports complex. Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex has been popular mainly due to the Indian Cricket League's Cricket Tournaments held here.
North of Chandimandir area is hilly terrain and Pinjore along with Kalka. Absolute west of Pinjore is the industrial area of Baddi. HMT factory is located in Pinjore. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL-A government of India Enterprise) was set up on approximately 24 hectares of land in Panchkula Industrial Area and today employs a large work force.
Urban Estate Panchkula consists of 3 phases so far:
Phase ISectors 1 through to 19, and Industrial area constitute the first phase of Pachkula.It is shaped like a large triangle, with the railway line being lying one side of the triangle and the Zirakpur Kalka road on another. The Industrial area of this phase is largely along the railway line. All the prime and posh sectors and a well developed market adorns this triangle.
Phase 2This phase consists of Sectors 20 through to 30 .Some sectors are located across the Zirakpur-Kalka road and many on both sides of the banks of the Ghagghar river.
Phase 3This phase will consist of the newly announced sectors beyond Ramgarh, to the east of the existing sectors of Pachkula.
There are plans to extend the urban estate of Panchkula. These plans, however, are in the initial stages. Urban estate forms on the most posh areas of Panchkula district and is home to the affluent and well to do gentry of Panchkula and Chandigarh tricity.
